Gone To Hell In The Biggest Bucket Of All

about

Recorded in 1982, excerpts from this behemoth appeared on Below The Horizon, On Dry Land and In The Woods. It was available, briefly in the mid 1980s, on the almost eponymously titled Unlikely Records cassette URT105. 'GTHITBBOA' is loops looped to the point of incoherence with interventions from the fabled Cox Box to enliven the proceedings (as used by Terry Burrows of the Jung Analysts and Tonesucker). It starts very quietly....and ends very quietly after 23.20 minutes. In between it was described by one critic as being 'like 80s Merzbow heard through eiderdown'. Who am I to disagree? Played as a continuous loop it seems to grow steadily shorter, which is probably just as well.

The loops were made by feeding samples into a Boss DE200 digital delay hitting the freeze button and hoping for the best. A tedious process that produced something useable about one time in a hundred. The occasional Shepard tones are a happy accident of the production process.

Rimarimba is the safety valve for the interest in music, electronics and guitars which Robert Cox formed in his teenage years and has not managed to shake off yet, despite being old enough to know better.
